ABS-CBN recently dished out their “Kapamilya” annual concert, proving once again that they really are in the “handog ng saya” business. Now on its third year, TFC Live Down Under, was held this time in Sydney and Brisbane and was aimed at bringing the global Filipino community closer to home by bringing the familiar faces to Filipinos overseas.
“We are not just a channel. We are one community. We are one global family, “ said Irene Acosta, Regional Marketing Manager. “We’re here to make a difference in the lives of Filipinos overseas.” she added.
Dipping from their rich pool of on-air talents to delight and entertain Filipinos in Sydney were multi-talented actor, Jake Cuenca; crooner, Jed Madela; and singer-comedian, K Brosas. Although the latter was not at the press conference, her presence at the concert plus her unique comedic timing left the audience in stitches.
At the press conference, Jake and Jed charmed the media and candidly answered questions with Jed even giving a sample of “The Voice” for which he is known for. “Our job is to make others happy, it’s that simple,” both TV personalities said. Their advice for success was not to rush it, “it will come in time,” and to “love what you are doing.” Success will come in time, when it’s right.” said Jake. And Jed’s reply: It’s the three Ps – practice, patience and prayer.”
Rocky Roxas, ABS-CBN Managing Director for Australia and South Pacific took the opportunity to clarify ABS-CBN stance regarding competition. “ABS-CBN is not connected with any other Filipino broadcasting channels, nor is there any plan whatsoever in the future, nor do we need to. There is no partnership. It is important to communicate what’s right and what’s fair. Subscribers are putting themselves at risk when they hook up to both TV stations. It is important that the consumer is protected .” he stressed.
It was seven years ago, when TFC entered the Australian market and TFC’s Kapamilya continues to be the “beacon of light” shining into the lives of Filipino homes worldwide.”
