Philippine Tamaraws Back In Action

It’ll be a great start to a Rugby League weekend with the Philippine Tamaraws battling Thailand and Niue for Rugby league supremacy at the International Rugby League Test Match at Wentworth League Club, Sydney on Saturday, 4 October 2014.

The Philippine Tamaraws will be seen in full form in a sweat-busting, action-packed afternoon.  The Philippine Junior Tamaraws will be tackling Thailand at 2:00pm in the Under 23 division and then the Philippine Tamaraws take on Niue at 4:30pm.

Gates open from 12noon and the afternoon of fun kicks off at 1pm with the opening Aboriginal Smoking ceremony. Mr. Jose Relunia Jr., PCC-NSW President will do the honours of representing the Filipino community for the opening.  Ms. Issei Guarin will beam with pride as she sings the Philippine National Anthem prior to both games.

Consular officials from the Philippines, Thailand and Niue will be attending the event. Community organizations such as the Philippine Community Council of NSW, Filipino Australian Movement for Empowerment (FAME), the guman Capampangan and the Philippine Language and Cultural Association (PLCAA) will be participating in the event.

 There will also be cultural presentations and food stalls with native dishes from the countries participating, plus jumping castles and other activities for children.  An OZ Tag competition will also be held for children aged 8-14 years old (boys and girls) prior to the two main international games.
